unit 2: journey on relaxation

While the house was still quiet (i.e. no children up and about) I found the time and space to practice the “Journey on Relaxation” exercise.  I began by sitting up right and as the instructions began, sunk deeper into my couch, eventually just lying down.  My breathing began shallow and nervous, but again, with his instruction (and incredibly soothing voice), my breaths became deeper and more relaxed.  I visualized the blood pumping from my belly up to my shoulders and back down into my arms and hands, to the very tips of my fingers.  As my breaths became even deeper, I felt they were powering the movement of the blood.  My arms did feel the weight of the increased circulation…so much so, my fingertips had an unusual tingle to them that I had not felt before.  As it was now time to return my blood circulation to its normal balance, my body seemed to gently awaken.  My hands opened and closed into some sort of pumps to help return the blood to my belly again.

Coming out of the relaxation exercise, I was surprised to find out how much time had passed.  Had I really laid there quietly for over 15 minutes without interruption of thought or children?  I enjoyed the moment a little longer before I decided to sit up and write about it.  I grabbed my coffee which had now grown cold, and felt a pleasant burst of energy that I will be able to reflect on as my day moves along.
